Photoshop CS easily merge panoramas

Photoshop CS image merging is a new function added by Adobe for Photoshop to cater to the rapid development of the digital age. You can use this new tool to easily make picture collages, especially for making panoramas.

Open Photoshop CS, we open the editing dialog from the menu "File / Auto / Image Merge" (Figure 1).

figure 1

Let's learn how to use the "Image Merge" function by making a panorama as an example.

Please prepare digital photos that need to be stitched in advance (because the size of the scenes taken by the camera is limited, so to get a 360-degree landscape photo, you must use the camera to take the front, back, left, and right scenes into photos , We put these photos in a folder. Opened the "Image Merge" dialog box (Figure 2), Photoshop CS will prompt us to import the photos to be processed first, here you can import all the pictures in the specified folder into the editing dialog box, or you can choose a separate list Pictures to import.

figure 2

When you are ready to create a panorama folder, select "Use Folder" to open the photo you want to synthesize in "Source File" (Figure 3).

image 3

After clicking "OK", all the pictures in the "360-degree panorama" folder appear in the blank dialog box of "Source File" (Figure 4). Here you can select individual pictures again, and delete unnecessary pictures by using the "Remove" function.

Figure 4

After the source image is selected, before performing "OK", you can check the "Try to automatically arrange the source images" option and then "OK". At this time, Photoshop CS will automatically perform a series of operations, the action is performed quickly, but We can also clearly see the steps of automatic operation. The first is to import the pictures into Photoshop one by one, and then import these pictures into the "Image Synthesis Dialog". Since "Try to automatically arrange the source images" is selected in advance, Photoshop automatically arranges the pictures according to the scenery of the pictures. For panoramas, if the automatic arrangement function is not selected, we need to edit the pictures arranged in the "Image Composition" operation dialog box ourselves (Figure 5).

Figure 5

The interface of the "Image Merge" dialog box is roughly divided into a tool area, a source image area, a picture editing area, and a parameter setting area. It is similar to the Photoshop dialog box interface for other functions (such as "liquefaction" filter processing). Use the mouse to select the arrow tool in the "Tool Area", and then drag the "Source Image Area" in the picture into the "Photo Editing Area" respectively, and the thumbnails can be seen in the "Navigation" window of the "Parameter Setting Area" (Figure 6).

Image 6

There is a lever at the bottom of the "navigation" window. The left and right adjustment of the lever sets the view display size during picture editing. Because the width of the panorama is very long, the view is normally in an edit window. The display is complete. The window range that can be operated when arranging pictures in this way is limited, so it is necessary to reduce the display scale and then operate again.

When "Normal" is selected in the "Settings" option in the "Parameter Setting Area", when the pictures are arranged, the display ratio of the pictures is normal; when selecting the "Perspective", the picture display will appear irregularly distorted when the pictures are arranged (Figure 7).

Picture 7

What is the role of "perspective"? Let's explain through the synthesis process of two pictures. It is to take part of the scene in one picture as the main part of the other picture, and its display state will be based on the scene of the synthesized part in the picture. Distorted display for the main body, so that the overlapping part of the display effect is like the same scene. As shown in Figure 8, the left side of the mountain where the two pictures are combined distorts the feeling of forming the same mountain as the mountain on the right, which is also an important effect of making panoramas (the boundaries between the scenes cannot be seen after the pictures are connected) ).

Picture 8

Choosing "normal" or "perspective" has a great influence on the generated panoramic picture. What effect we see in the "photo editing area" is exactly the same as the final panoramic picture effect, so the settings here must be cautious. Before you determine the effect of generating a panorama, you can look at the effect of the panorama produced by the "Preview" function in the "Advanced Options" of the "Composite Settings". (Figure 9)

Picture 9

The common options of several tool options in the "Tools Area" can be understood at a glance, so I won't say much. Instead, the "Rotate Tool" and "Set Vanishing Point Tool" need special explanation (Figure 10).

Picture 10

Use the "Rotate" tool to rotate the specified picture in the editing area, and the "Set Vanishing Point Tool" must be used in the "Perspective" state. Because a picture after the "perspective picture" will be distorted in order to accommodate the previous picture (as described above), after using the "set vanishing point tool", you can change the "primary and secondary" order of the two pictures to distort the picture Mainly and another picture is distorted, as shown in Figure 11 to see the effect before and after use.

Picture 11

Under normal circumstances to make panoramas, we arrange them in order according to the left and right order of the sceneries, and then generate panoramas. Before “determining” the composition, you can set whether to combine the panorama and become a layer according to the effect required by Photoshop to edit the pictures, or whether to arrange these pictures in a layer only to arrange them as a panorama. If you want to combine them into one layer, choose "Adsorption Layer", and if you want to put them on separate layers, choose "Keep Layer" (Figure 12).

Picture 12

Finally, select "OK" to generate a panoramic picture in Photoshop (Figure 13), using Photoshop CS "image synthesis" function will greatly simplify the tedious panoramic image production process, you can try to make your own panoramic image !
