What is the outdoor +? The simple summary is that while further strengthening the advantages of outdoor sports, deepen the cross-border and integration of multi-category, and build a sports lifestyle. In outdoor sports, tourism has always been considered an indispensable plus.

With the opportunity of the ISPO Sports Tourism Industry Forum, we had the privilege of interviewing Ms. Gao Wei, China Business Development Manager of the Swiss National Tourism Administration. With its innovative ideas and unique perspectives, we analyzed and looked forward to the market development of the outdoor + sports tourism industry. Let us listen to the experience sharing from Switzerland, a sports tourism developed country.

Q is simply a description of what kind of country Switzerland is? What places are there for visitors?

Switzerland is home to the Alps and is a paradise for outdoor and skiing. Throughout the year, outdoor enthusiasts can find their own hot spots in Switzerland.

Q What are the trends of Chinese tourists going to Switzerland in recent years? Does the Swiss ski resort respond to Chinese tourists' strategies for dealing with the market?

The number of Chinese tourists visiting Switzerland for skiing has significantly increased by more than 20% in the past two years. The Chinese skiing instructor training program initiated by the Swiss National Tourism Administration in 14 years has also gradually matured. In the major ski resorts in Switzerland, you can book a Chinese ski instructor. In the 2015/16 snow season, Swiss skiing information micro-signals are available for consultation from Chinese skiers from December to April. In 2016, more convenient booking and Chinese language services will further enhance the experience of Chinese ski tourists.

Q What percentage of Chinese tourists are present in winter and summer? Does the Tourism Bureau have any measures to alleviate this problem?

The summer of Chinese tourists in Switzerland is the growth of blowouts in the past 10 years. At present, the large teams that Chinese tourists, especially travel agencies undertake, will still be the bulk of travel. However, more free-market trips, small boutique groups, incentive groups, and theme groups subdivide into the niche market, bringing new hope to the winter in Switzerland. We are also very happy to provide the greatest support and convenience for this change.

Q What outdoor activities do you have in Switzerland in addition to skiing? Do you think it is possible to face the outdoor sports community in China?

Trekking and cycling have always been two important outdoor tourism products in Switzerland.

Hiking is easier to get from the mass market. We are also exploring and developing hiking trails with interested tourism companies and introducing those famous hiking routes to tourists who are interested in hiking tourism.

Bicycles are a relatively niche market, and because of their own differences, there are different populations and products such as speeding down of highways and mountains. In this regard, we are also working hard to open up new channels such as club brand cooperation and attract even more nimble riders outside the conventional travel industry.

Q The successful bid for the Beijing Olympic Winter Games will see more people fall in love with snow or ice sports. Does the Swiss Tourism Board take advantage of this new promotion?

The strategy of the Swiss National Tourism Administration until 2022 will always follow the themes of skiing and Winter Olympics. We will also work closely with the Swiss Ski Association, the Ski School Alliance and other related organizations to provide Swiss tourists with all-round winter tourism in China.

Q. How does Swiss Tourism consider sports tourism? What role does the Swiss Tourism Board play in the sports tourism industry?

In the transboundary genes of tourism, movement has always been the most important plus.

Before the Chinese market became interested in this area, Switzerland had long been a pioneer in the sports tourism industry. Many outdoor lines, brands, events and other industries will successfully present this outdoor sports paradise in Switzerland. We also hope that China's industry pioneers and companies will see Switzerland's outdoor appeal and join us in developing Swiss sports tourism to Chinese fans.

Q. How does the Swiss Tourism Administration plan for the current or future segment of sports tourism?

Summer outdoor, winter skiing, urban culture and art are the development strategies of Swiss tourism. We will continue to subdivide the crowd and dig out the services and information needed by different target groups and guide them successfully.

Q As a traditional tourism bureau, what are the industry barriers encountered in the sports tourism business?

The practitioners of the traditional tourism industry lack the basic knowledge, lack attractive products and lack brand appeal under the theme of sports tourism.

Switzerland's sports tourism service providers are relatively small and scattered.

How to introduce Switzerland's small and refined sports tourism suppliers to China's demanding sports tourism service providers and build bridges is a test that they face.
