New packaging makes Nestle smart beans more fashionable

Recently, a small-scale revolution in European candy packaging design has emerged. Major candy chocolate manufacturers have developed shapes and designs with more modern and fashionable packaging to enhance the impact of product shelves and increase brand influence. One example is Nestlé Smarties' change of new packaging. Nestlé has changed its traditional cylindrical carton smart bean packaging into a hexagonal carton pack to maintain the dynamic and freshness of the smart bean brand.

Stylish and simple new packaging

Smart Beans is a long-established brand and has been using cylindrical packaging since its introduction in 1937. For 68 years, this traditional packaging design has always been very popular with consumers, so the remodeling of smart bean packaging has become extremely cautious. In close cooperation between Nestle Germany and Nestlé UK, Nestlé eventually developed this new hexagonal carton pack. In the summer of 2005, the newly packaged smart beans began to be marketed on the Western European market.

Christine Hermann, Confectionery product coordinator for Nestlé Export Commodities Germany, said: “The new hexagonal packaging is more stylish, modern, more dynamic, and more eye-catching; with a specially designed re-sealable flap open system The consumer can open it with one hand; there is also a distribution system on the packaging, and the consumer can only pour one or two sugars at a time, so when the package head is down, the candy will not leak to the floor."

New packaging using full cardboard material

Joachim Soditt, head of candy packaging development at Nestlé Germany, said: “The new hexagonal packaging is very demanding on the material. This packaging area is small, but there are many corners and bonding points; the company requires packaging It is possible to configure a specially designed opening system; the packaging surface should be as print-friendly as possible; in addition, the packaging material must be absolutely neutral and must not contaminate the product."

Nestlé uses Stora Enso's Neocar board. Neocart is one of Stora Enso's line of chocolate and confectionery packaging paperboards. It is fully coated, thick and has good flexural rigidity. It is ideally suited for the manufacture of Nestlé Smart Bean's hexagonal packaging carton.

Wilfried Schmahl, business coordination manager for Stora Enso's chocolate and confectionery packaging company, said: "In today's fast-changing candy market, creative and dynamic packaging solutions are conducive to the sale of products. Our job is to provide flexibility. The right materials with the best sensory properties and coating solutions for our customers.”

Joachim Soditt said: “The cardboard surface is not covered with extra plastic film and is very safe. It will not cause pollution to the product. On this basis, with the new built-in flip cover, we can ensure the novelty of packaging and packaging. ”

Field Group is responsible for the production and printing of this new type of hexagonal packaging from Nestlé Smart Beans. The new packaging is coated with varnish and uses six-color printing.
