Wrap: Plan to Eliminate Consumer Concerns about Green Packaging

The American Waste and Resource Action Plan organization (wrap) stated that many brand product manufacturers have chosen to use green plastic materials to help consumers distinguish products with different packaging materials. The organization also intends to develop a composting guide to unify the separation technology of different polymers and to coordinate the implementation of the necessary product life cycle analysis.

Wrap hopes to study the advantages of biopolymers compared to traditional plastics and recyclable plastics. Phillip Ward, the manager of the wrap organization, said that compostable packaging and biopolymers have great potential for development in the packaging field, but it is also important to introduce these materials in a suitable way so that they can be handled more appropriately.

Last year, the wrap organization conducted surveys of more than 400 citizens in the UK and found that more than 52% had heard of biodegradable packaging, while only 15% knew compostable materials. A quarter of the respondents said they would recycle compostable packaging, and 44% would choose to throw the trash into the ordinary trash. Less than 15% of people choose to dispose of their own waste.

The organization also issued a statement on biopolymers, clarifying some definitions of terms used to describe packaging materials, and considerations of environmental impact.
