Sharing is the essence of the book "Basic Sketching Guide"

What I want to share with you today is that from the essence of the book "Basic Sketching Guide", the hand-painted gods summed up some tips for the new beginners who created the paintings.

This book has many useful inspirations and suggestions for beginners who are ready to study in painting, such as how to choose the right painting tools, how to understand the shadows and darkness of objects, how to add colors and how to build a Complete picture scene. Friends from 3DTotal also gave 10 tips to help with sketch learning! What a human service, let us sneak a sneak peek!

1. How to draw curly hair with simple lines

In fact, as long as 4 steps

Tip: Draw two vertical horizontal lines, which are the reference lines for the length and width of the curls. Now draw a wavy line between the two vertical lines.

Draw a wavy line below the first wavy line. Now you see a curly ribbon. Now connect the open sections on both sides, erase the guides, and add some detail.

2. Avoid over-smearing

Put a blank sheet of paper under your hands to avoid smearing your own work

Tip: When drawing a shadow, put more than one piece of paper under your hand. This will prevent your hands from touching the lines that are applied to the pencil. If you are right-handed, then shadow from left to right. In the case of the left-hander, it is shaded from right to left.

If you want to break the characteristics of a clean picture and the tone of the picture, it is very simple, keep on smearing it. On the contrary, occasionally just use the smudge effect of the picture to make the shadows more harmonious. You can use some tools to achieve this effect. I will use a paper towel to achieve the effect of the smear.

3. Use some textures

Patricia's bag horse completes the image

Tip: Some artists may think that the textured side is also painted with watercolor. However, I am more inclined to keep it as it is. There is no need to fill the entire picture with water. Leave some space for your painting to maintain its original texture.

4. How to draw the sky?

We always habitually think that the sky and the clouds are very bright, but the truth is not what you think!

Tip: Sometimes the shadows are smoother and more detailed than the thick leaves, which will make the painting look good. But unless you are very careful, usually the pencil lines will not blend seamlessly. Unless we want to deliberately pursue graffiti effects, in most cases we don't want the sky to be a mess.

In order to achieve a detailed effect, it is necessary to apply a large piece of paper on a piece of paper with a flexible graphite or charcoal pen, and then apply a large brush to apply the floating graphite. Continue to use the wiper to dispose of the dark parts and apply more with the charcoal because you need more graphite. Use the same technique to darken parts of the sky to make the clouds stand out.

5. Control

Three-point pen (above) Extended three-point pen (below)

Tip: The closer your finger is to the part of the pencil, the easier it is to control the painting more accurately, the strokes will be heavier, and if you are far away, it will be more difficult to control, less precise, and finer strokes.

6. Diversify by line

Here you can see a variety of ways to use the line

Tip: Not all lines are the same. The subtle changes in the thickness of the lines you use will create a vibrant and interesting picture. It will be difficult to control the marks you draw at the beginning, but by trying 3H to 6B pencils of different grades, as well as practice of holding pens from different angles, you can create a variety of markers to form a condensed picture.

7. Outline (silhouette)

Let's take a look at the example here. It is obvious that the first girl is holding a cup, but the second one? Not as clear as the first one.

Tip: Have you ever noticed that every important character in an animated movie can be identified only from their shadow? This magic is called a silhouette. The purpose of finding a strong and interesting silhouette is to create an unforgettable character.

To test whether your characters can be recognized as a silhouette, take a tracing paper, then outline your character and fill the outline with a solid color. A great test method is to show your character silhouette to your friends or colleagues and ask them what they are seeing.

8. Using tracing paper mirroring

Flip the image to highlight the problem

Tip: One of the benefits of tracing paper is that you can flip it over and look at your image from a reverse perspective. This can help show scale errors. Use this to draw a better work when you work.

9. Symmetric, but not too symmetrical.

Constantly compare the final effect with the sketch feel.

Tip: I like symmetrical graphics, but they tend to look boring for a while. A good way to recommend this is to prevent this by adding some subtle changes to the picture and retaining the symmetry only on the large structure, not every small part. The conclusion is that maintaining the asymmetry of some elements helps to avoid the boring and dull picture.

10. Mix together

Illustrator example using irregular lines

Suggestion: Use irregular lines in the shadows to make your picture more vibrant. If you want to paint characters, architecture or conceptual art, you must use this method. I use irregular lines to draw a loose and flat background (this technique will enhance if there is no texture), shrubs and grass.

If you want to learn painting but don't know how to start, you can try these methods. But for painting, there is nothing more helpful than painting. The technique is just a way, not necessarily completely. This way, you can go out of your own way. If you feel that the place is not complete, you can leave a message to add ~
